Even Teens Love Acupuncture!
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a proven natural healing therapy. Using very fine, sterile and disposable needles, our skilled practitioner gently and painlessly inserts needles into predetermined points on your body to harmonize the balance of energy flow. Occasionally, mild electrical stimulation or heat is applied to specific points for increased effect. Acupuncture includes Asian Body Work, Therapeutic Exercises, Qigong (chee-gong), Cupping, Guasha (mild scraping), Meditation and more. Most of our patients experience a calm exhilaration after treatment as their condition improves.
How does Acupuncture Heal?
Over two thousand years ago, Chinese healers began mapping out our body’s energy pathways or channels called “meridians”.  Meridians run through and on our body’s surface as electric currents, activating organs and tissue functions. The vital energy flowing through the meridians is called “Qi” (chee). If a meridian is not open or free flowing, the Qi~energy can build up causing blockages. If this occurs, ample energy is prevented from reaching other sites along its path, preventing your body from being naturally nourished.  Acupuncture stimulates Qi flow into areas that lack vitality and away from areas that store excess. Both activities can stimulate your body’s innate healing ability to increase your energy balance and enhance mental well being.

                                               The Chinese Doctor says
“There is no pain if there is free flow
If there is pain, there is no free flow.”

Today, electromagnetic research has confirmed the locations of acupuncture points, providing scientific explanations that acupuncture needles stimulate the release of chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. These natural chemicals can change pain sensations and activate other chemical and hormonal releases that help regulate healthy body functions.

We want to help you lead each day with health, happiness and harmony using                             Acupuncture and Massage Therapy in Oak Park

What does Acupuncture feel like?
Many of you will feel no pain when a needle is gently inserted, while others of you may feel some mild cramping or tingling, warming sensations. If you are uncomfortable with needles, please ask us about our non-needle techniques.

Acupuncture is safe!
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, stainless steel, sterile needles that are only used once. Acupuncture needles are not like hollowed hypodermic needles that have cutting edges. Inserting an acupuncture needle causes far less pain than needles used to give blood or receive injections. We only use new needles with each treatment. Always.

Consistent treatments equal wellness
The number of sessions depends on your treatment goals. Acute problems need fewer sessions, whereas complex or chronic conditions may require one or two treatments per week for several months. Acupuncture effects build and strengthen with repeated visits. After your condition has been treated successfully, less frequent health maintenance “tune-ups” will keep your energy flowing and in good balance.

Insurance?
Each day, more insurance companies include acupuncture therapy as a covered treatment.
Visit our Insurance page to help you determine your benefits.

What about side effects?
Although uncommon, one of the needled points may develop a small bruise. Please relay any concerns to your acupuncturist before treatment. The most noticeable side effect is a good one, likely to occur after the first couple of treatments. It will be a feeling of deep relaxation or invigoration.
